No More Compromises Mr. Speaker!

Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner made news last week by signaling that a compromise with House Democrats over this year’s budget must happen in order for the Republicans to make significant cuts to next year’s budget. The House Republican plan asks for $61 billion in cuts while Democrats offered $33 billion in cuts to the budget. While these numbers are insignificant in terms of solving our nation’s fiscal crisis, they are of symbolic importance. If Republicans cave in to the pitiful Democratic offer of only cutting half the amount initially proposed, it is a sign of weakness. The fact of the matter is Democrats have just proven again that they are not serious about cutting spending. They enjoy spending hard-earned American tax dollars on broken entitlement programs and various other pet projects (ex. Harry Reid’s “Cowboy Poetry”). Republicans must stand firm on this issue of drastically reducing the size of the nation’s debt. If we can’t cut $61 billion with Democratic approval, how are we supposed to cut $4 trillion like the Ryan Plan offered? For the last 40 years, Democrats have ramrodded their landmark legislation down Republican’s throats such as Johnson’s Great Society or Obama’s healthcare law. It’s time for Republicans to stand up for the American people by cutting the spending that is destroying our nation’s ability to function. Apparently lawmakers are heading to the people’s will already: Mr. Boehner announced Monday that the $33 billion Democrats offered is now "not enough". The time is ripe for significant changes to the Federal Budget. Congressional Republicans must fight for the necessary cuts to preserve our nation for many generations to come.
